Flipbook Project

For my flipbook project I decided to "animate" the cycle of the day.  I used a mini notebook, a pencil, crayons, a nickle, and a soup can – which where used for the circles in my piece.

I wanted the video to simulate standing on an open field watching the horizing as time sped by, and as time flies by, you will see how the sky changes through out the day and night.

Drawing and colouring nearly the same thing over and over again because repititive and boring, but I was looking forward to viewing my finished product. After completing the book I decided to make a video from pictures of each page. It took me a while to get the hang of iMovie, but I was able to complete and save the video onto youtube.

Music Categories

Experiemental
Scambi, Thom Holmes
This music era is a topic I have learned about in the class Music and Technology where several people were interested in the avant garde. I also rememeber this song being played as an example of experimental music because of the unusual sounds, intruments, and techniques used to make such a piece.

Disco
I picked this song for disco music because its a song I remember dancing to alot in my childhood during my parents parties and get togethers. Celebration fits with this category because it was made to dance to during disco/dance parties.

Girl Power
Girl power music was manifested as a genre to boost girls confidence and self-esteem. When it came to choosing a song for girl power music "Run the World (Girls)" was the first to pop i nto my mind. Also, this song has often been nicknamed the "Girl Power Anthem".

Virtual
This pick is actually from an animated movie, Interstella 5555, which is entirely made up of different songs – one of which is "One More Time". I enjoy wathcing animation entwined with different types of media, even though much of society gives cartoons/animation a reputation that it is for kids.

Dubstep
Dubstep is type of electronic music that is made to dance to (similar to disco). The genre uses alot of heavy drum beats and synthesizers. I think that "Written Emotions" fits into this category.

Performance Art: Sticky Note Mural

For my performance art piece, I decorated the wall of Brevard Hall's lobby with several dozens of sticky notes. I'm not the type of person who would like to do anything dramatic or extreme in public, so i decided to make a "mural" of a heart eyed emoji.
In order to succeed in making a sticky note mural the wall needs to be as smooth as possible so the adhesive and take hold of as much surface possible or it will fall off pretty quickly. The wall I used was a little rough but at the time I thought the location was the best spot or an audience. The sticky notes stayed on pretty well in the beginning and my friend and I rushed through much of the face of the emoji. However, later on as we started stacking sticky notes on sticky notes the collective weight started pulling them off the wall. So, I ran and got my glue stick, and was able to finish the project.
At the time, there were hardly people coming in and out of the lobby so finding good reactions to the piece was scarce, but there are some good one's. Hope you like it!

Xerox project

For my Xerox machine project I used only the copies of my hands because the machine could not properly copy all the dimensions of my face. The hand was easy to copy because it is flat. I wanted the piece to look like the sun, with hands and several fingers facing all different directions. I also wanted to add something "special" in the center of the group of hands. Therefore, I crossed my hands together as the "special" something.

For the sun rays I made a silhouette of a kite shape from a pocket folder. I wanted to copy the shape onto the poster board and color it in with white crayon, but I did not have enough time. Instead, I used the silhouette to cut the same shapes from copy paper and paste it onto the board.

Looking back at the piece, I think it would have been pretty cool to color in the rays so that there would be more medians than the poster and the paper, but I am still satisfied with my work.

Grid Art Project

For my project, i decided to use Qixels, which are small rubbery cubes that when sprayed with water stick to one another. Originally, I wanted to use legos, but I could not find any that were plain or non-themed. The only problem I had with Qixels is that the design trays were too small to design all of my art piece in one piece. Instead, I had to superglue different chunks at a time.

When I first started, the first thing I could think of to make -- maybe it was because of my Halloween spirit -- was a carved pumpkin. After I made the pumpkin I needed to think of some kind of background pattern. I wanted the colors of the background to be black and purple, but there were no purple cubes. So instead, I used red and blue (which = purple). It may look a bit patriotic but I still think its ok.

Thinking and planning the steps I had to make took a lot of work too. I used graphing paper to draw and redraw the design I used for my grid project. All in all, I really satisfied with the way my project turned out.

Happy Halloween!

Stage Door

I feel that broadway is a very powerful type of art. Broadway uses choreography, singing, changing of settings, and acting to bring emotions to life, a concept similar to opera. I remember going to Manhattan, NY to see my fist broadway musical Mary Poppins. It was so interesting and fun to watch. It felt like I was really in the movie. There were a lot of details int he costume designs, stage design, props, and make/hair. In one part, which I remember the most, the actress of Mary Poppins was able to fly across the stage and over the audience. Broadway really brings this brightness to the world and I don't think it will ever disappear.
